Hajj’s Symposium – Befalls

The SBO (Student Body Organization) in coordination with the SBO-Halaaqat Organizations conducted the Eid’ Adha Symposium at Vocational Technology Building with the theme, “Journey to self-renewal through hajj”.

Sheikh Ibrahim Ameril served as the guest speaker in this annual program. He illustrated the five significance of Hajj. 1) It’s one of the greatest deeds in the 5 pillars of Islam, 2) it is another way of expressing Jihad, 3) minor sins may be diminished through hajj, 4) promotes the gathering of people and Islamic socialization, and 5) it’s reward is in Jannah or heaven.

Through the completion of the last pillar of Islam, a Muslim’s self may be renewed and Taqwah can be inculcated in one’s way of living. However, it was emphasized that the financial support in undergoing Pilgrimage must not come from any sort of sin such as corruption, Ribah, and the like for this may invalidate our hajj. Allah (S.W.T) knows best.

After Sheikh Ameril’s lecture, Uztadz Abuhuraira Edza facilitated the qur’an Reading Competition where participants from different year levels compete. As a result, Alonto Kudarat from 3rd year garnered fourth place, third place went to a first year student, Mr. Abdul Haq Gayak, second year student Abdulwali Kamid bagged second place, while the first place was awarded to Edris Abobaker, a fourth year student.

His Excellency Ambassador Makoto Katsura Visits SKIA for a Dialogue

A party from the Embassy of Japan spearheaded by His Excellency Ambassador Makoto Katsura visits Sultan Kudarat Islamic Academy Foundation College on October 31, 2007. His Excellency was accompanied by Minister Yasunouri Nakayama, Mr. Masafumi Nagaishi, Mr. Yushihisa Ishikawa, and Mr. Hernan Pineda.

Before the dialogue starts, Atty. Datu Michael O. Mastura, the President and Founder of SKIA, and Datu Ismael V. Mastura, VP for Finance and Administration accommodate His Excellency Ambassador Makoto Katsura and his party to an In- Campus Tour wherein the guests of honor had an insight of Maguindanao royalties through pictures taken by Americans during the American regime. They have seen the Grand Canyon too which the forefathers of Mastura clan used against colonizers.

Upon delivering his message, Ambassador Makoto Katsura informs the students and the other guests in attendance that their visitation has no political ambition. He relates the difficulties Japan faced after their defeat on 1945 World War II against the Allied forces in which two of the major cities of Japan, Nagasaki and Hiroshima was bombarded with atomic bomb. After years of endeavor, Japan gradually rises especially with the aid of UNICEF. With this, he feels that it is the moral obligation of Japan to help the neighboring Asian countries such as Malaysia, Philippines, and Indonesia.

Furthermore, Japan lays different reconstruction-building efforts to abet Mindanao and let individuals realize that it is still necessary to perceive peace as better means of living than the rest. This effort includes school buildings projects and peace development. Japan has been a part of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) that gives support to the peace negotiations in Mindanao.
